People pleasing is shadow dancing
People pleasing is an illness.
What Scott says
It becomes a form of shadow dancing. People pleasing is an illness, it is an addiction, it will destroy you and the people around you. I say this because I too was a people pleaser and it destroyed me and it destroyed my relationships. It becomes a form of shadow dancing.
I am pretending to be something and the other person I'm connecting with is pretending to be something else. And I am trying to fit who I think they want me to be and they are trying to fit who they think I want them to be. And neither of us are exactly ourselves. So when we connect, we're always connecting in a place that is partially self-rejecting, self-abandoning.
So the connection can never be deep. The connection can never grow and build and trust and depth over time.
