The whole path
Resting as the Source of Longing
What Scott says
And so basically the general idea is the key to longing is longing takes you up and then out of your body. And what we need to do is we need to follow that energetic movement back to its source. So when I have a longing, like I long for this fancy boat I saw on the water the other day, right? I want that boat.
When we feel our energy go out of our body, we notice it. And then we literally, it's a physical thing. We follow it into our eyes, down our neck, down our chest, down our abdomen, to our third chakra or lower downtown area. And then we rest as the longing there.
And then what we do is once we do that, then we begin to feed all the longings back into that longing, right? And it's a whole practice. And basically the general, what you want to do is first we want to identify what is it that you really want, right? Ask yourself, what do I want?
What do I truly want? One other way to think about it is what do I want that if I got this one thing, it would give me everything else that I want, right? So say if I wanted that boat that I talked about earlier, then what I really want is the experience of freedom and enjoyment and excitement and connection and fullness in my abdomen and chest while riding that boat on the ocean. That's what I actually want.
I don't want the boat. I don't really care about the boat. I don't really want the bills. I don't want the maintenance.
I don't want to have to find a place to park it, right? I don't want any of those things. What I actually want is just that feeling on the boat or maybe with my family on the boat or whatever it is, my friends or my partner, but that's what I want. And so that's actually not the boat, right?
So there's no need to go outside of yourself to get that want. What you really want is freedom, wholeness, fullness, right? So instead of thinking, I want the boat, we figure out what is the essence of the wanting. And the essence of the wanting is, I want to feel whole.
I want to be free. I want to suffer less. I want to be connected with all things. Something like that, right?
Some of the different chief hopes I had were, I want to suffer. I want, I don't, I don't want to suffer or I want to suffer less.
