The whole path
Don't try to be selfless
Be selfish. Fully accept it, and selflessness begins.
What Scott says
Don't try to be selfless. Be selfish. And when you fully accept being selfish, you begin to enter into selflessness. Embracing the paradox between our humanness and our spirit allows us to let go of our selfishness.
We are all programmed, learn, develop a self in the first five years of life. Five-year-olds are selfish They have to be to survive. Thus, our humanness is based on lessons of selfishness. To become a bodhisattva and help heal the world, we must fully embrace our own human selfishness and then step aside and let spirit move through us so we can be selfless.
Ultimately, when we can hold both our selfishness and selflessness at the same time, can we actualize our own true human potential?
