The outcome isn't real, the method is
For anyone who judges their inner work by results.
What Scott says
And the outcome is not real. The method is real. think that's the concern, right? I mean, that's my concern as you describe the experience is that I think there's a tendency to value the outcome over the method.
And the outcome is not real. The method is real. Right. Because the outcome is literally A minus B.
So, you know, if you're really sick. and you do have a really good day or something, you're gonna think you're the best but you could be really, really good and just have the same exact day and think you're the worst because you don't have any outcome. But it's not that's not real, it's just the outcome is simply just a subtraction from one arbitrary baseline to another. It's not an effective way to determine progress or success.
Progress or success happens with the form, right? And when you get good at the form, then the outcome just naturally arises out of the form. Right. Or another way to think about it is if you're judging outcome based on external behavior, you're never going to be able to do the inner work to get better.
There's lots of times we do a bunch of inner work and you have a horrible day and you feel like crap. And from all signs point to, you wasted your time, or even if you didn't even process, you just were stuck all day. And then all of a sudden, two days later, you have this huge shift and nobody knows why. It's like because you just don't know.
Yeah.
