The whole path
Control is mostly an illusion
I can't control the way the tea comes out.
What Scott says
I can't control way the tea comes out, that's one of the reasons why tea is so great, but that's an aside. I would say that this idea that we can control something is largely false. If we look at control, meaning that there is one cause for one action, meaning I can control, you know, the taste of the tea I'm making, it's just not true because I can't control the way the tea comes out, right? And that's one of the reasons why tea is so great, but that's an aside.
But so, for example, all things in life have many causes or infinite causes lead to the present moment that we live in. So we can't control that. And so any belief or attempt to do that puts us out of wholeness and into separation and means we're living a lie. So it's not possible.
So control as a concept is false. You know, the separate self is largely based on the false idea that we can control things. And so often, if you say to somebody, control isn't real, or there's no such thing as control, that can be upsetting or unsettling to people because their separate self is based on that.
