What Scott says

Do I have the bandwidth to try to connect and feel the loneliness? In general, addiction is just the simplest thing: it's avoidance of emptiness and loneliness in the middle of your chest or wherever you feel emptiness and loneliness. So if you know that, then when you notice you're having an addictive thing, then you can decide what you want to do. Do I have the bandwidth to try to connect and feel the loneliness?

Or do I not? If you don't, or you don't want to, which is okay, you just note that. And what you'll notice, my guess is three to six hours later, you will find yourself at the other end of the pattern, which is you're going to be very close to eating. Which is fine.

And then just eat. And then you can go, look, there's all this information. This is very interesting. I had an opportunity at three, three o'clock.

I had this spike that I didn't want to look at that was kind of loneliness. I saw it, but I was like, I'll deal with it later. Never got back to it. Worked three more hours.

Went home. Didn't eat lunch. I was hungry. And I didn't take care of the loneliness.

Oops. I went out to dinner and ate too much. You're just learning. That's the key.

And then eventually, you're going to catch it at the three o'clock spot. And then once you catch it and you are change your relationship, then the addiction naturally just goes down, you know.
