The whole path
When You Feel Far From Your Own Truth, Look Here
What Scott says
It means in any moment of any day, of any emotion, of any experience, if you know how to look and where to look, you can find your own authentic wholeness, spirit, truth within and interwoven with all of it. Right? So, without this one thing, all things are lost without a relationship with our wholeness, with our essence, our essential nature, without it, life has no meaning, falls apart, and is never quite authentic when we connect with our essential wholeness, our own personal transmission, our spirit within our own body, then everything is okay.
This is a classic pointer spirituality. To me, what it means is that we must always value our wholeness and authenticity, our earnestness, above everything else in life. And that when we stray and stop valuing, whether consciously or unconsciously, our own truth, then we rapidly or slowly fall apart. Spiritual teaching and meditating and coming together in communities like this is an attempt to change our relationship and our valuing of the different aspects of our life.
I am able to live on a certain level of awakening or abiding awakening because I have learned over and over again that truth and authenticity and what we truly are is of the greatest value and that nothing else has value in comparison. sounds in a way very black and white and anti-human, but my experience is very granular and nuanced. Meaning, if I see my child have success with one of their friends, say, or draw a nice painting or picture and they're happy, and that brings me joy and I have value to that. it doesn't mean that that is no longer of value.
What it means is that which is of value within my experience of celebrating with my child is my very own authenticity, truth, and transmission. You see, it can sound like an exclusionary way of thinking, but it's actually the most inclusive pointer. It means in any moment of any day, of any emotion, of any experience, if you know how to look and where to look, you can find your own authentic wholeness, spirit, truth within and interwoven with all of it. Just like the way that I suffered, say, if I love someone and they pass away, if I see and experienced my own and the world's authentic wholeness and truth within that loss, it creates great value in the loss of my friend.
If, on the other side, I don't see the truth and wholeness of the experience and I reject the loss of my friend, it then has no value. And then I suffer because I think and feel that my friend died for no reason. But when we see that each moment and each thing all has inherent truth and value, right, when we say yes to every aspect of our life, then we find all of life has this authenticity to it. It is not something that needs to be created or cultivated or practiced necessarily.
It's a very tricky can be kind of tricky to comprehend if we are stuck and if we can't connect with the truth of the moment or the authenticity within each experience and event it feels as if we are so far from our own wholeness so far from our own truth so far from the peace that we have experienced before and yet other times it is the simplest easiest thing to do it is just the natural way that we are. So, if this resonates for you, then my encouragement is to try it out to take it as a possibility, right? Look at your life, look at your experiences, look at the ups and downs, and the emotions, and losses, and successes with the assumption that what you truly are is in each and every part of your life.
Whether you like it or don't like it, whether it makes you feel good or it causes you to suffer. And instead of using the view, it's not this, it's not that, instead, see if you can use the view, a more positive view, like, yes, I am this, yes, I am that. And as you say, yes, look through what you're experiencing and see if you can find your suchness, the me-ness or the Scott-ness or whatever it is, within that experience, right? Sometimes for me, it's as if we have labeled and boxed up the experience, and so it needs to be approached, said yes to, and then expanded outwards.
And then when we expand that suffering or expand that emotion, we can kind of then enter into it and feel the different layers and what it's made of. And when you really feel into it with kind of a positive, including like a view of inclusion, we're including it, right? Then it's almost like a different level of sensitivity is opened up. And then we can begin to feel the nuances and the similarities between all of the experience.
A more practical way, maybe, to think about it is once you've begun to experience a certain level of presence, openness, stillness, flow, or whatever you want to call it, giving a certain amount of time every day to returning to your own deepest level of authenticity and stillness, and then acting or moving from that. And when difficulty arises, or periodically throughout the day, taking 30 seconds or five minutes and resting and returning to the source of your being or to the abdomen or one of those spots we talked about.
And every time you choose to do that and put the external world aside, then you're able to value that more than the old story that has been running through our lives.
