Usually, there's not a lot of control in life.
What Scott says
Usually, there's not a lot of control in life. how much of your life or someone's life is predestined, and how much of your life is based on free will or choice? me, it'd be like, when do I decide to start formally teaching? I've been thinking about it for years.
It's not a choice. It doesn't feel like a choice. It seems like it's pretty much predestined. Not really a lot of, you know, it's easy to beat yourself up, be like, oh my God, I should have done this.
Or, oh, say I start teaching and it goes well. I'm like, I could have done this seven years ago, blah, blah, blah. Right? Like, which is not true in a lot of different ways.
But, but, but, but, so it brings up this idea of free will versus or choice versus lack of free will. And so, my sense of it is that often we don't have a lot of choice. Usually, there's not a lot of control in life. But what we do have, we always have choice is on our inner orientation and relationship with the world and with whatever is arising.
And that's mostly all we have for choice. And also that's where we exercise our autonomy or standing our own two feet is internally.
